Hi, I’m Cían from Carrick-Beg Co. Waterford and I am your Student President.

Dia dhaoibh a chairde, tá súil agam go bhfuil sibh go maith. My name is Cían Quinlan and I am your Student President for the 2020/2021 academic year. I hope you are all happy to have made it to UL. Your first college experience is one of the best experiences of your life and I’m sure you are going to love your time at UL over the next few years. I have just finished third year studying Gaeilge & Politics and I will be returning to complete my degree in September 2021.

Your first year at UL is definitely one of the most exciting experiences you will have – but unfortunately not all students will get through college without encountering a difficulty here or there. That is where your student officers come in. We are here to support, advocate for and represent you as best as we can.

I sit on over 40 committees within the university and it is my job to represent our student body and be a voice for students at all of these meetings. Although these meetings can be exciting, the job isn’t just about the big issues – the small issues are just as important. If you ever need anything or just feel unsure about something feel free to reach out to me or any of the other officers – we are here to help you!

If I could give 1st year Cían some advice it would be to not hold back. Embrace this new experience as best as you can and step out of your comfort zone. Definitely have a look at all the different Clubs & Societies we have to offer in UL Student Life, I’m sure you can find something for you. Try and meet as many new people as you can and I’m sure you will make some friends for life along the way.

If you ever feel like you’d like a chat drop me an email or pop in to the office – my door is always open.

Sin é anois, go raibh míle maith agaibh!

Cían Ó Caoinleáin
